My Daughter Sheikha Just Call Her YRH

Off with their heads

Okay, so I'm a big fan of dressing up my dolly but 3 different outfits in one week!!

Last week at school my petit choufleur had French day (and I could not find a beret anywhere but she looked suitably attired in red and white striped t-shirt, white capris and tri-colour neck scarf). Much kudos to the mum who made her kid up as Marcelle Marceau, bravo! Why the hell didn't I think of that.

Then two days later there's fashion day, which my doll was dying to dress up for - seems it was a runway walk and they had to put on the attitude - something my babe is a master at. So mum's old fringed flapper dress (don't ask ;O) pearls, a blonde bob wig, sequin headband, lipstick and a beauty spot. Tah dah! God only knows what the neighbour's thought.

Next day was history day. Fortunately we managed to buy an Elizabethan dress off her teacher, who presumably ordered it from the net only to receive a Chinese size 12 which would only fit a 10 year old.  Had some fun stapling her into that one. Whitened face and a pearly head piece and she was set. Had my fingers crossed that she would not repeat the horrible wardrobe malfunction she had at age 5 when she tripped over her Cinderella ballgown and it tore a huge hole along the bodice from left to right that you could drive a bus through. Only the zipper at the back was keeping the whole skirt from falling around her feet. Alas she had exposed her mismatched underwear (greying oldish vest and princess panties with the transfer washed off) for all the KG boys to see. Had to go out and buy her several sets of matching princess underwear before she'd return to school again. Which, of course, she proceeded to show all her female classmates at any and every occasion.

'Salak' a Musical Voyage of an Innovative Marriage of Cultures

Salak is the result of an artistic residency between Kuwaiti and French musicians held from 26 March to 1 April 2013. This unique encounter gave birth to a very original music that mixes tradition and innovation. At the heart of Salak, there are two string instruments: the emblematic Eastern Oud and the Western Chapman stick. The improbable meeting of these instruments for the first time on stage opens a new dialogue space between two musical traditions; two cultures despite their differences complement each other.

The show “Salak” will bring the audience through time on a journey of musical discovery to re-experience traditional music.

Some Pearls of Wisdom from the One and Only Bill Gates

GIVE IT TO YOUR KIDS !!..Read and Share

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school.

He talked about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world doesn't care about your
self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it’s not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters.. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Al Nowair - Speading Positivity and Smiles :OD

We are a Move, an initiative driven to spread positive attitude in Kuwait. An attitude we believe can be a way of living and lead to fulfillment and happiness.

Harvard research proves that having a positive attitude is a choice. You choose the way you perceive different situations. If you choose to look at them from a negative perspective your mind is unable to notice the positive. But if you sca
n it for the positive first, you immediately gain an amazing advantage, as a positive attitude improves the quality of your life and your health.

Alnowair is a collective of 5 different species of flowers that grow across Kuwait. Although each has different shape of petals all of them are yellow and round, all need the same elements to survive and they all spring to life together.

We call ourselves Alnowair because we know people are different. We know that each person is unique just like the flowers, but collectively we are still the same. Our basic needs are the same, no matter what age group or what income group we belong to.

We all might have different smiles, but the reasons behind our smiles are often similar.

Every one of us has a seed of positivity inside and it is our choice to water it, nurture it and allow it to bloom.

It’s that simple – it’s your choice.

I Hate Go Daddy

Some of you may have noticed the blog was unavailable for a few days until I figured out that the domain host, Go Daddy, had sold my domain name. The blog is registered thro Blogger but you have to buy the domain name from a host company, which was GoDaddy.com.

For 3 years I happily renewed my domain name annually for  LadiesWhoDoLunchInKuwait.com. But this year I forgot, they did send me a solitary email back in Jan but I must have overlooked it. So I spent a few frantic days last week calling Go Daddy to try and renew/retrieve my old name.

What I found out was quite astounding. There are people out there who wait for domain names to expire so that they can snap them up and resell them back to owners - no doubt lucrative business if your domain name was Ford.com or Sears.com. Those who do not try to resell the domain name back to the owner buy the name and then divert the incoming traffic (viewers) to another site they own to up its stats/ratings. Thirdly, I heard that GoDaddy, itself, auctions the names off. The person who has bought my domain name has chosen to stay anonymous so I can't contact them or know who they are. Be warned fellow bloggers and domain owners out there.

Now I wasn't that keen on the name before but now I don't own it anymore, I really miss it. Thought about changing it completely and had a few great suggestions but decided to keep the blogsite address as it is - so you just add .Blogspot in there before .com. For now and maybe forever - no not forever I am a woman and therefore have the perogative to change my mind at the drop of a hat - it's LadiesWhoDoLunchInKuwait.Blogspot.Com a bit of a mouthful so you'll just have to bookmark it :OD

Thanks for all your enquiries, suggestions and support. Please share the blog with friends if you enjoy it. Feel free to comment or email it's always nice to hear from you.
