The First International Women's Day Event hosted by Women's Empowerment

The First International Women's Day Event hosted by Women's Empowerment@Kuwait English School, on 10th March.

This intercultural, working, event will celebrate the groundbreaking achievements of international women. It will bring together 18 year old A-level girls, with ambitions to further female empowerment in their native countries, into an intergenerational discussion on global issues with successful, professional women.

I would like to thank Alison Price for invaluable mentoring. And to wish the group the best of luck.

ECG Happy Ending

I've had a few stressful days so this morning took myself off to Yarmouk Clinic to check my BP. Because I'm so special I go to the Specialist Clinic upstairs for, dare I say it, Chronic Diseases, sounds like I should book a funeral already. Although hypertension is called the silent killer mine tends to give me some warnings signs: headaches, light-headedness,  heart flutterings. Well, I had a full room of med students listening to my ailments and initially, my case might have hinted at something interesting but the ECG came back boringly normal however the presiding lovely lady doctor cautiously referred me to Amiri Hospital as the BP was high 160/105.

As usual, there was no parking at Amiri, the wait time was long and the seats were hard. I thought about leaving several times but didn't as I was worried it might be more than raised BP. Finally, I got to see the doctor who was a large man with a big beard (not Santa), at first I thought okay here we go expecting the usual condescending medical jargon, zero eye contact and dismissive gesture. Oh boy! Was I wrong. Such a lovely human being, he explained at length about the treatment and tests I was to undertake, reassured me, calmed my anxiety and gained my trust. Fortunately, I'm fine and I would like to thank the lovely Dr Al Hameed at Amiri and Dr Samira at Yarmouk. I'm well impressed with you both. Parking and hard seats not so much.

Whirlpool Moments

I would just like to thank @whirlpool for not getting me into big trouble. My new clothes dryer stopped getting warm and the clothes were not drying. Flummoxed, I tried a few buttons, switched it on and off, tried several times and no luck. Then I read the instructions (I know, I know, no judgment please this is Whirpool's moment) so I discover there is a water residue tank that has to be emptied every time it is used. Thinking back I vaguely recalled, 'yadda, yadda, water tank needs emptying, yadda yadda' from the @safathome guys. So I pull out the full 2 ltr water residue tank and empty it. And bam! It's working again. The machine had been running before but not heating up because the smart little machine must have a sensor to tell it to switch off the heat so as not to create more condensation (water) for the full water residue tank so it doesn't overflow and damage the machine. And I am eternally grateful that I haven't broken the machine after 6 uses. Happy customer. #whirlpool moments #kuwait #smart #dryer

Lest We Forget

On The 11th Hour of The 11th Day of The 11th Month We Remember

Remembrance Day (sometimes known informally as Poppy Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth of Nations member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. Following a tradition inaugurated by King George V in 1919, the day is also marked by war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November in most countries to recall the end of hostilities of World War I on that date in 1918. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month", in accordance with the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am.)
