Review: Dai Forni, Four Seasons Hotel

We booked a table specifying it was for my daughter's 16th birthday and ordered the additional roses for KD 10. One would think that a little extra attention would have been given but no we were assigned a table away from the view and next to the gurgling coffee machine. About 5 window tables have stunning views unless you sit outside which we did contemplate but it was 39 degrees so stayed next to the non-stop coffee machine reminiscent of sitting in a Starbucks.

Our waitress was fabulous she was articulate, funny and professional. The maĆ®tre d' was unremarkable. We ordered drinks, calamari, minestrone soup, truffle pasta, shrimps and monkfish. The prices are high and we were expecting great things.

Passion fruit cocktail was delicious. Unseasoned bland calamari even the aioli couldn't make it taste any better. Minestrone soup and the bread basket were superb. Truffle pasta was inedible. Shrimps delicious. Monkfish, the weirdest thing I've eaten in a long time it was overcooked and hence on the tough side served with a pea puree (that was not all pureed} and blanched almonds. Blanched almonds which added zero to the already pitiful, expensive dish. Gordon Ramsey would have had a field day.

Unremarkable Maitre d' did nothing except bring out the chef for humiliation. The poor chef apologised and offered free dessert but we had pre-ordered a birthday tiramisu. Zero knocked off the bill. A limp apology from Maitre d' along the lines of blah, blah next time you come. No honey it's now you need to impress there are too many great restaurants in Kuwait to waste another meal at Dai Forni again.

The average dish is priced at KD 16-20 can't remember how much my husband paid in total but way too much.

It's a 3/10 for great waitress service and a fabulous bread basket. PS the roses were wilted.
Shocked at how disappointingly overpriced this experience was.

Countdown to Holiday - Switzerland and France 2018

Okay, so we fly into Geneva pick up the car drive along the lake to Buchillon, day trips to Lausanne and Montreaux Jazz Festival and a boat trip across to Evian. Lots of raclette and chocolate. A trip to a Gruyere producer and a chocolate factory train trip.

Off on the food pilgrimage to Lyon but first a quick visit and lunch in beautiful Annecy. A bouchon or three in Lyon, the park, vieux Lyon and a Michelin star restaurant with a TDF view of the city.

Depart Lyon drive south via Chateauneuf du Pape. On to Saint Remy de Provence for 6 days with day trips to Avignon, Gordes, Aix, Pont de Gard and lavender fields.

Depart Remy for Vallarius via Aix to stock up on goodies from the weekly market. Vallarius is in the South of France close to both Cannes and Antibes. My sister and her family join us for 11 days of fun and frolicking. My daughter will be close to her buddies holidaying in Cannes and hang out with them. Tickets for mum and dad to boogie to Earth, Wind & Fire and Nile Rodgers Chic at a live concert at the Juan Les Pins Jazz Festival.

A day trip to Italy - I have promised my nephew pizza in Italy, Monaco, Mougins, Grasse, Cannes, Nice, Isle Margarite, St Paul de Vence, and the beautiful Cote D'Azur beaches.

We have a week that we haven't booked anything so we can decide if there is somewhere we want to revisit.

Back to Switzerland to Crans Montana for possibly a day or two for my daughter to see a school friend.

And then back to Kuwait.

Fingers and toes crossed that all goes well. See you in August. Happy travels people.

Review: L'Eto Caffe in Avenues Phase IV

The Spanish latte at L'Eto Caffe is a perfect blend of ice cubed coffee, saffron milk and condensed milk heaven. Sooooo good. The queues waiting to get in makes this the trendiest restaurant of the week.

My friends had a quinoa salad and lasagne both were very happy with their choices. I shared a saffron cake and a honey cake with my daughter and the other two guests. Both items are supposed to be best sellers but two of us weren't overly impressed. The saffron cake was more like a pudding and had a strange texture. The honey cake was stodgy, was just too sweet and lacked the honey taste that one would expect from the name. I've had much better honey cakes.

I would go back and try other items if I didn't have to queue.

8/10 the service was amazing as was my Spanish latte. Great ambiance, perfect for people watching and the rest of the menu looks very tempting indeed.

Review: Cleo Mediterranean Restaurant, Avenues

Today, lunch at Cleo Mediterranean Restaurant, Avenues Phase IV. I was expecting way too much after hearing glowing reviews. It seems like so many establishments here if you don't visit within the first two weeks of opening, whilst the big honcho chef is in town, then you have missed the moment.

The baba ghanouj turned up looking nothing like the picture. I told the waiter who kindly replaced it and added the missing capers. My kale quinoa salad with roasted veggies was way too oily. I don't think the veggies were roasted as they lacked the sweetness that roasting imparts. The veggies were mostly raw on one side and charred on the other and swimming in oil except for the zucchini which was mushy and oily and looked inedible so I didn't even try. The quinoa was a little bizarre it was harder than usual and seemed deep fried. Sadly, what I had hoped was going to be a healthy lunch turned into a greasy, unappetising disappointment. The bread was boring and uninteresting. Although the service wasn't bad I would have expected more concern over my lack of dining pleasure. I loved the gunpowder green tea but not enough to go back though. Plus I don't need to as the waiter told me it's Twinnings. Lovely setting, disappointing food. 2/10

The Stunning New Part of Al Kout Mall is Open and Well Worth a Visit

Kuwait’s leading property developer Tamdeen Group has announced that its Al Kout Project, the largest waterfront retail and entertainment destination in the country is open and thriving.

Occupying a plot of 300,000 sqm, Al Kout Project offers six diverse experiences reflecting the unique architectural heritage of Kuwait. The most modern of these experiences is Al Kout Mall, which opened for visitors during the first quarter of 2018, said the developer.

The mall will increase the overall leasing area of Al Kout Project to 100,000 sqm.

The KD123 million ($407 million) Al Kout Project compromises 360 stores and a 12-screen cinema, which is equipped with the latest Imax and 4DX systems and will be managed by Kuwait National Cinema Company (Cinescape).

Dining features prominently at Al Kout Mall, with an array of local and international restaurants and cafes, including 11 Kuwaiti trademarks which affirms Tamdeen’s constant support for ambitious initiatives from Kuwaiti entrepreneurs.

Al Kout Mall is also home to Infunity Sea Family Entertainment Centre, the largest indoor facility-of-its-kind in Kuwait. The Centre is themed around marine life and is an ideal edutainment for visitors of all ages eager to learn more about the marine environment, said the statement from Tamdeen.

In addition, Al Kout Mall will house the first-ever Q8 Karting, the biggest indoor track of its kind in the Middle East, offering an exhilarating experience that simulates pro racing. The Q8 Karting track is designed to suit all types of races, and age groups, it added.

Al Kout Project has a seafront stretching 1.6 km in Fahaheel area, with captivating views of the Arabian Gulf, particularly at Al Kout Marina, which can accommodate more than 150 boats.

Meanwhile, Al Kout NaG’at, a favourite pier for fishermen, is one of the rare spots that has preserved its heritage, with traditional sailboats, fishing methods, and commercial activities.

Tamdeen pointed out that another highlight of the project was Al Kout Souq which reflects the area’s heritage. It features a traditional-style marketplace where traders sell fruits, vegetables, fish and meat.

The design of the Souq area reflects the simplicity of shopping in old Kuwait, it stated.

The project not only offers variety in entertainment and shopping, but also caters to the tourists via its five-star Al Kout Rotana Hotel. Strategically placed, it is 25 minutes’ drive from Kuwait International Airport and a 45-minute drive from the Saudi borders.

The project promotes easy accessibility, with Al Kout Mall connected via a footbridge to Al Kout Souq, offering stunning views of fountains, and the marina, said the statement from Tamdeen.
The mall also incorporates a multi-story car park and external parking, with 3,600 parking slots, it added.

LWDLIK - I just got back and I'm well impressed. It's beautiful airy interiors, subtle chic colours and its gorgeous loos are stunning. The architecture is fresh and interesting with lots of curves so you are not quite sure what is ahead of you.

Just loved the Cinderella coach
