Italian police fined a woman 500 euros for wearing a full Islamic veil - the first punishment of its kind in Italy but the latest in a wave of sanctions against the burqa in Europe. [link]
Personally I think, in these days of heightened security, it would be the rights of the general public that are violated. She should have at least shown her face to the police. What happens when she goes to Mecca? I understand that a niqab is not permitted inside whilst performing haj and omra. And there will be males there who will see her face. What if it was a person in a balaclava stood in line at a bank?
Yes I did see the niqabis eating spaghetti at a restaurant, I think soup and a straw would have been a better option ;O)
Am all for women right to not want to be seen, what I do not understand, is why chose to drive, go to public places, university, work, etc not to mention restaurants!
If you do not want to be seen, stay home and only go out when you absolutely have to, and then for ALLAH sake, do not wear something that brings more attention and if you chose to do, when asked, you have to show your identity.
Were her rights violated, or did she violate the general public rights?
ReplyDeleteHmmm tough one!
