Blair: A Kuwaiti government official was Tasered last year after he urinated on former Prime Minister Tony Blair's doorstep
Daily Mail
The diplomatic protection officers had been patrolling outside the former Prime Minister’s £4.3 million London townhouse. Police used a taser to stop a man urinating on Tony Blair’s doorstep...only to later learn he was a Kuwaiti government official.
They approached the man, who appeared to be drunk, and asked him to stop urinating.
A scuffle ensued in the 3am incident and the police fired the 50,000-volt taser to incapacitate the Arab man so they could arrest him.
The unarmed suspect, Ayedh Alrashidi, who only speaks Arabic and understands little English, collapsed and was taken to a nearby hospital.
It was later revealed that Mr Alrashidi, 40, described as ‘a wealthy and peaceful man’, is a government official from Kuwait.
He was charged with being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police
officer.
Caught short: Ayedh Alrashidi urinated in West London's Connaught Square, where former Prime Minister Tony Blair lives
At a later hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court, an agreement was reached between the Crown Prosecution Service and his solicitor that Mr Alrashidi would be bound over to keep the peace for a year.
Last night his solicitor, Mr Bassam Tablieh, raised concerns over his client’s treatment and said Mr Alrashidi had considered taking the matter further following the police reaction – but had instead decided to return to Kuwait.
Mr Tablieh said: ‘Mr Alrashidi is a Kuwaiti national, who lives abroad. He doesn’t speak very good English. He is a peaceful man and he didn’t realise what was happening.’
Mr Alrashidi had been staying with friends in a flat just ten minutes walk from Mr Blair’s West London home in Connaught Square.
A friend of Mr Alrashidi said: ‘He didn’t deserve to be treated like that, he is a man who lives a life of luxury in Kuwait, as a respected government official. He didn’t realise he was outside Mr Blair’s home.’

It is understood that the Kuwait Embassy paid for Mr Alrashidi’s visit to Britain, so he could be with a family member who was having medical treatment.
The incident last September has only come to light after it became widely known among locals.
A Scotland Yard police spokesman said: ‘A taser was deployed and a man was charged with assault and being drunk and disorderly.’
LWDLIK - Surely that's very dangerous to taser someone whilst peeing..
I LOVE THIS IDIOT! "A friend of Mr Alrashidi said: ‘He didn’t deserve to be treated like that, he is a man who lives a life of luxury in Kuwait, as a respected government official. He didn’t realise he was outside Mr Blair’s home."
ReplyDeleteSeriously?
He's a respected government official who made a mistake. I mean, he shoulda just peed on anybody's doorstep - Joe the plumber, for example. He made a MISTAKE, people! What is the big deal? Everybody has to pee when you've been out drinking all night and walking home! C'mon! Give the wealthy respected Kuwaiti government official a break!
He couldn't just have peed on Mr. Blair's electrified fence??
Oh yes, the pride of Kuwait!
Bye bye London. "... you go home. Me go home... but wait, I gotta pee..."
LOOOOOOOOOL
Maybe they mean 'usually' he is a respected government official. I'm sure this has been a very big learning curve for Mr Rashidi who has learned his lessons well.

ReplyDeleteSorry won't be able to publish your comment due to the expletives and it's general hateful tone.
Kindly remember it is a family blog and I am married to a Kuwaiti.
Thank you.
For the man to be using the bathroom on someone steps, he had to be drunk or mentally disturbed. I think the police was justified for using the Taser.
