Shaastrotsav Festival of Science in Kuwait

Shaastrotsav-Festival of Science, organized by NSS College of Engineering Alumni (Kuwait Chapter) will have the fourth edition on Friday, the 27-April-2012, from 10-7PM at Salmiya Indian Model School. (SIMS).

The last Shaastrotsav 3,was held on 6th May, 2011 in the state of the art campus of GUST, Mishref-Kuwait in association with Gulf University for Science & Technology (GUST). We have come a long way since the first Shaastrotsav held in 2009. Now with nearly 3000 students, teachers and professionals participating or visiting, Shaastrotsav experienced tremendous growth, both in participation and quality.

Shaastrotsav is designed to promote, encourage, showcase and reward the achievements of students in the various fields of science. By developing skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, students are laying the groundwork for their future success.

Shaastrotsav – Festival of Science brings together students, teachers, engineers, doctors, scientists and industries to: Develop in students an awareness of the importance of science in their lives and to cultivate students’ interest in science. Support students’ acquisition of scientific knowledge and research skills. Recognize and reward outstanding achievement in science. Motivate students to undertake and complete scientific inquiries in their special areas of interest. Introduce latest developments in science & technology to the society.

Shaastrotsav had earned the tag of Kuwait’s unique Science and Technology Festival in 2009 itself. It is renowned for its unique aggregation of events, exhibitions, presentations and demonstrations of latest technological developments and competitions it offers every year. Shaastrotsav – Festival of Science brand name carries with it the responsibility of providing the best and the latest in science and technology to the society. Promising to bring you the best, as it has been doing since its origin in 2009, the legacy will continue….

Shaastrotsav, the most awaited unique science and technology fest which gives first of its kind experience for the public will commence at 10:00 AM on Friday, the 27th April 2012, informed the organizers in après meet held here. One can witness a large number of informative and entertaining programs that will continue till 7 PM on that day.

The major attraction of the fest, the science exhibition for students will be held in three categories- Sub-Junior, Junior and seniors. Kuwait Engineers Forum as in the past will be contending this year too. More than 13 Indian schools had confirmed their presence in the science exhibition, the organizers said. In past years, the tech sassy students conquered the minds of the public at this highly popular event, in which the entry is open to all public. As an encouragement to students, Shaastrotsav will give away cash awards to winning teams of inter school science exhibition winning the 1st,2nd and 3rd positions. In addition to students category, there will be an exhibition contest on the open category also this year, the organizers said.

The prime highlight of this edition of Shaastrotsav is “CapQ Science & Technology Quiz” which is expected to attract huge crowd including students, parents and all technology enthusiasts. Mr. Ashwan Lewis of Karnataka Quiz Association will be conducting this inter school competition which will have a preliminary screening stage in the morning and finals in the evening.

Rubik cube solving contest is another highlight for Shaastrotsav 2012.This is first ever Rubik’s Cube competition for School children in Kuwait.

Visitors can watch computer animation contest in which many school students will participate to demonstrate their animation and computer skills. The theme for this contest is “Science & Technology”.

An interesting interactive session on ‘Human Problems – Green Nanotechnology Solutions’ is arranged this year for the engineering community. This will be headed by Dr. Shamim Ahmad (former Director CSIR, New Delhi) who is an expert in Nano Technology. This session is mainly targeted to the engineering community in Kuwait, the organizers said.
Shaastrotsav- Festival of Science is organized by Kuwait chapter of NSS College of Engineering (Palakkad) Alumni Association. Shaastrotsav convener Aravind Balakrishnan, NSS Alumni association president Santhosh Kumar, Shyam Mohan N and Sunil Jacob were present during the press meet.
