New Arrivals to Kuwait - Making Friends

I get this question a lot...So for the ladies and mums..

They are quite a few options British Ladies Society (BLS), Expat Mum Group, AWARE, TIES, American Women's League (AWL) , International Women's League (IWL), Dar al Athar, Al Maidan Cultural Centre, health clubs, beach clubs, book clubs, running clubs, biking clubs, dramatic groups, diving clubs, netball clubs, dance groups, Little League Baseball, LoYAC, cooking courses, art galleries, voluntary groups, mystery dining, sadu weaving classes, Chai Dhaha mornings at Sadu House, museums, docent jobs with Dar al Athar, yoga, golfing, bridge clubs and many more.. all can be searched for on this website and give you an idea of what they are about and their events, locations and contact details.  

There are so many things coming up; BLS Valentines Ball, AWARE Desert Day, K's Path Shelter Day, National Day and Liberation day festivities, PAWS Dog show, Concours d'Elegance - all fun stuff. Just type them in the 'search this blog' box on the top, right-side of the blog. Or check the 'events tab' above where you'll find a calendar of events.

My best advice would be not to limit your friends to white English people (or your same ethnicity) and enjoy the interesting and wonderful choice of lovely ladies here from all over the globe.

I cherry-pick the events that I post on here for you  but you will find a larger more diverse selection on Grapevine Kuwait and you can sign up for Expat Services Kuwait EEK  for up-to-date info, classifieds; bridge clubs, piano lessons, etc.

In Kuwait you'll need to make a fair amount of effort. A big smile and go introduce yourself. I have found one of the best ways to make friends is to host a coffee morning/brunch/lunch or have a BBQ or a potluck and invite some friends, relatives and people from school and their kids. Eventually the invites are reciprocated and your circle of friends grows.Everyone
appreciates being fed, the effort put in and in your home too gives it a cosier more intimate feel. One of the nicest things about Kuwait is the friends you will make, and I think it's because it's done on a more personal level.

Lastly, don't forget to sign up with LOCATE online or at the British Embassy, you will be reachable and informed in the event of an emergency (God forbid) and it gives you the chance of being invited to a few embassy functions.

Other embassies offer other services and BLS isn't just for Brits.

So apologies again if the name of the blog is confusing I haven't thought about doing coffee mornings yet, will let you know if I do.  I had intended to do restaurant reviews but found I couldn't be blatantly honest (mean) about the ones that stunk.
