ASEAN Bazaar 2010
Apparently in 1961, Indonesian President Sukarno prohibited rock and roll and other types of Western genres of music to try to revive the indigenous arts.
Jaipong is a mixture of village music (ketuk tilu), Indonesian martial art (pencak silat), music from the masked theatre dance (topeng banjet) and the puppet theatre (wayang golek).
Debuted in 1974 and was initially perceived as immoral. However that perception increased it's popularity.
Jaipong dancers will be performing at the ASEAN Bazaar on Feb 27 at Hashemi Grand Ballroom of the Radisson Blu Hotel. Timings for the bazaar 10am-2pm and 5pm-10pm.
