Arab TimesKuwait Team A Beat KSA At Gulf Women’s Football Tourney
The Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) opens the Gulf Women’s Football Tournament; the first event is a series celebrating its 10th Anniversary. The tournament kicked off with a win by Kuwait Team A over KSA (3-0). The second match enjoyed a win by Bahrain vs.Kuwait Team B (2-1).
The women’s tournament was a private event with an only women attendance. GUST ensured the privacy of all the players by providing strictly female security and facility management crew, banning personal cameras and camera phones and covering the entirety of the field. These measures were taken to respect the privacy of the players and their supporters.
The Opening Ceremony started with the Kuwait national anthem and a reading from the Holy Quran. This was followed by a lavish parade of the flags and KSA and Bahrain national anthems. The event speaker, Anwar Al-Sabah, Head of the Office of Student Life and Head Organizer of the Tournament, noted: “Academic excellence goes hand in hand with social excellence. GUST after 10 years has honored this ideal through supporting this event and others like it, to promote partnership and growth not only in the classroom, but beyond it.”
The first match was played by Kuwait - GUST team against the KSA team, while the second match was between the 2nd Kuwait-GUST team against the Bahrain team. The women played well and exuded sportsmanship. The all-female audience was thrilled to watch the women play the sport they excel in and supported them throughout their matches.
It was a successful start to the tournament, which has 3 more days left ending on March 5th with the final matches of the tournament. GUST wishes all the teams luck in their matches.
