Kuwait: Shia Twitter Arrested?

Naser Abul in blue.

Online sectarian war or freedom of speech? [link].
Anything said on Twitter, Facebook or in blogs that upsets the delicate status quo here can be dangerous IMHO.

I may be a a bit punchy today - but who cares?
they don't want twitter but they tolerate corruption at the highest and lowest levels. they overlook incompetence. they maintain bureaucracy. they want small and medium new businesses to struggle daily with ministries and the baladiya.
better books and cafe has started a blog and let them god-damn TRY to silence me, buddy.
in between book reviews, i'm spilling the beans about my ministry woes, overt request for bribes, sexual harassment by govt. officials while i'm just trying to get a fire certificate god damn it, and clerks asleep at their desks (with photos).
    watch this space:

Kim, BBC called me and wants to a piece on women in business in kuwait.
let them try to silence me after being on BBC, what are they going to do? take away my citizenship? let them try!
hhhmm, punchy, she is. vacation, she needs. yes.

  2. Oh Sweety...xxx

I know it's not always easy here. Sadly sending a male to do ministry stuff, instead of you, is a hard lesson to learn. I'm not sure what to tell you other than you have to find other ways to do things. Kuwait is different; the things that annoy you, ie. wasta, etc.. are the same things that can work in your favour.

This with the BBC can only work against you unless you're planning to leave. Kuwait doesn't really give a damn what the BBC thinks. And the BBC doesn't really give a damn what happens after you spill the beans. Your choice.

I know it's frustrating :O( Talk to your husband before you do anything. xx

Theres no such thing as freedom of speech in the Gulf- Nasser Abul and many others, are proof of that.

  4. Personally, I think there is a lot more freedom of speech here than in other GCC countries. I hope they will release these two men soon, if they find they were not trying to cause unrest in the region.

If someone can be sued for blogging about raw chicken that he was served in a restaurant then, yes, there is no freedom of speech anywhere.
