There are Some Mean SOBs Out There

I just got back from a friend's home. She told me of a horrendous story. A friend, someone she met a few weeks ago at the park, had been thrown out of her house on to the street with her 5 kids by her husband. He had beaten her black and blue. In 22 years he's never allowed her to travel back and see her family in Asia. She has lost most of her teeth due to the beatings over the years. Her kids tried to defend her but he would beat them to get at her. A kindly foreigner has taken her and the kids in and is trying to get them help. Bayt Zakat has been quite helpful and they have given her an allowance to get an apartment. The husband calls 100 times a day and threatens her and her kids.

Her blessings are those kids who are all A+ students. Seems they understand to get out of this hell, help their mother and themselves, they need to be great students. They deserve some peace and a normal life away from such violence.

The mother wants to go back to him.

Breaks my heart.

Can she go to her embassy for help? Gee, this is a classic case of domestic abuse. Grrrr......This woman needs a BIG Wake up call!!!!!!!!!
Someone has got to tell her that she has to do this for the love of her kids since she can't muster up the strength to do it for herself after all these years..... Poor soul... must have been so isolated and bullied and beaten for over 2 decades? Insane! Some things are just not Right... and this is one of them!!

  2. The police wanted her to press charges but she's refusing to. I suppose leaving a man like this probably depends on how you've been brought up, how mentally beaten down you are and your own warped idea of love.

Will keep you posted. Thanks for caring.

  3. So sorry for her, she really needs help. I am sure she does´nt want to`press chargess on him because she is worried of what will happen to her without his economic support. We should try to fin a work for her. So that she doesnt need any economic help.
I have a spanish friend here that has worked in spain with women that have suffered this abuse. I´ll ask her what we can do. I´ll let you know

Is this woman married to a Kuwaiti? Because if yes, then she could file for divorce under Kuwaiti law? Better yet if she already has Kuwaiti citizenship-- her husband would be forced to pay by the courts and I am sure a divorce would be granted seeing that she has already lost most her teeth! What more proof could they possibly want?!?
But I am guessing, the problem is she wouldn't want to file at all because in her mind, she is "holding the family together":-((( this is soooo sad....

  6. I´ve spoken to my friend and she would speak to her but she says that we first need the help of the government because it is easy to tell her how to act or what to do, but then what? we send her back with her "hangman"? Kuwaiti people should face this problem and start talking about it and start doing something, it´s so usual here that maybe your daughter needs help some time. Also with the maids.... grrr there is so much work to do... Any help? count with me.
    pd. sorry for my english

  7. Hi Natalie, thanks so much honey very kind of you. If she wants to send me an email LWDLIK@gmail.com with her contact details I can make arrangements to pick her up and take her over. Will be checking in on this poor lady this weekend will see what, if any, progress was made.

Sometimes just knowing other people give a damn can make all the difference. Thanxxx.

  8. Dear Anon is she married to a Kuwaiti, yes she is. Which may well be her saving grace yet, because -believe it or not- the divorce laws here are very pro-women now so it is likely that in time and if she chooses to divorce him, she will win financial support from him and the government. She may be the best off she's ever been in 22 years.

The police were ready to take him away when they saw the state of her. They told her he would have got no less than a year in prison. But she isn't 'ready' to press charges and may never.

Will keep you all posted. Thanks for your concern. And bless the American lady and her family (angels) who has sheltered and fed them for the past couple of weeks.

  10. This really breaks my heart. :( I pray that she will have the courage to divorce him. How kind of the American family to provide her with a safe house.

  11. Things are slightly improving the Bayt Zakat have agreed to pay for a small 2-bed apartment, given her rations and with help (from new friends) she is managing to ferry around her kids to school. I'm hoping as things improve she will see that returning is a really bad option.

The American lady and her family are angels who walk among us. Humanity at it's best. God bless her and her family.
