What is a mesbah? Mesbahs (rosary or prayer beads) have held a strong significance in this part of the world. Over the years, mesbah have been a symbol of culture, tradition, power, and Arab pride. This status symbol carried a meaning so great that its existence in poetry and prose is overwhelming. However, we have always wondered what makes this string of beads so great? And who else out there can see this piece of art as we do? People from all over the world have interest in misbahas. They can be seen as a link of intimacy between a person and his/her prayers or a luxury of silk string holding smooth onyx beads together. However mesbahas are viewed, the craftsmanship of these handmade wonders is admired by many. Al Mesbah, this art of craftsmanship is values and elevated, and a social platform for mesbah collectors hopes to create a special community that can share the admiration of this common interest.
A mesbah can be as simple as plastic beads strung on cotton, or they can be as delicately exquisite as beads made from patterned ceramics, hardwoods, precious stones, or the bones of rare animals strung on a string of silk.
