Rumour Has It Andrea Bocelli Will Be Performing At The Inaugeration Of Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre

The Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Centre will showcase performing arts and create a world class theatre quarter in a spacious parkland setting. Together with Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre, it will form Kuwait’s new national cultural district.
The cultural district will include state-of-the-art theatres, concert halls, cinemas, conference and exhibition halls and a library archive. The four buildings will be accessed from spacious entrance courtyards and will sit like jewels within a larger public park.
Complex geometric forms inspired by Islamic architecture will create the richly textured outer skin of each building creating dramatic public spaces below that benefit from the interaction of light and shadow. Visitors will circulate via air conditioned lifts and travelators.
Luxurious, world class buildings beneath the titanium clad outer skin will exude character, drama and a heightened sense of expectation. The wonders will continue inside each building and visitors will find jewels within jewels as they explore the beautifully designed interiors.
The key buildings in the theatre quarter are:
Theatre Centre
Music Centre
Conference Centre
National Library for Historical Documents
Park

Located in Kuwait City near the church and Sheraton hotel.

How exciting! I am ready to beg, borrow or steal a ticket to see Andrea Bocelli perform there. If anyone wants to unload some tickets please let me know LWDLIK@gmail.com I would be eternally grateful.

Opera: AMG Present Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell

Dido and Aeneas tells the story of beautiful Dido, the Queen of Carthage, whose city is wealthy but defenseless, and the rugged Aeneas, the General of Troy, the impoverished city with a proud military tradition. Under immense pressure to fall in love and marry, they meet with all the eyes of two nations upon them. They face witches and sorcerers, storms on the seas, and storms in their hearts. Singing Purcell’s timeless music, they struggle with love, duty and destiny.

Kuwaiti Opera Singers to Perform at Al Maidan Cultural Centre

I've not had the pleasure yet to hear Amani al-Haji yet but I have had the pleasure to hear Abudlrahman al-Mahmeed and he is very good. Should be a lovely musical evening. And, of course, the other two events this week at Maidan should be very interesting also.

Concert: Diary Of Hope III Featuring Rahmani, The Kuwaiti Tenor (Abdulrahman Al-Mahmeed)

It was a superb musical evening last night in aid of The Hope Foundation at the Al Hashemi, Radisson Blu. Under the patronage of the British ambassador to Kuwait, HE Frank Baker.

The very talented young muscians from both Kuwait English School and British School of Kuwait enthusiastically played and sang to an appreciative audience. The concert opened with, the much talked about, Kuwaiti opera singer Rahmani (Abdulrahman Al-Mahmeed) singing O Sole Mio, which was just lovely.

A very reasonable KD 5 ticket price with drinks and canapes served at the interval.

Wonderful piano solos, saxophone and string ensembles, an enchanting santur, big band tunes and some superb harmonies. From Chopin to the Simpsons, it was truly a superb evening. A big finale with Rahmani singing my absolute favourites, Nessun Dorma and Conte Partiro; which  had me teary eyed.

With thanks to Mrs Rhoda Muhmood, her staff and all those who made the evening so very special.

Verdi's La Traviata today at Movenpick

The scheduled performance for the evening of Thursday April 22nd will go ahead. A very small number of tickets are available for this performance. These can be purchased at the hotel front desk. As you are probably aware the Tuesday evening performance had to be cancelled because the opera company were unable to leave the UK. However, an additional performance has been scheduled for the evening of Friday, April 23rd. All Tuesday evening ticket-holders are being given priority for this performance and are being contacted. If they are unable to attend a full refund will be given. There are additional tickets available for sale for the Friday performance. These can also be purchased at the hotel Front Desk. The price is 27.500KD, including welcome canapés from 6pm. The opera will start at 7pm and finish at approximately 9.30pm. This open-air performance of Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ is a unique event for Kuwait and I am delighted that it will take place here at the hotel. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the hotel.
