The events of the play take place at the end of the tenth century A.D in Andalusia, at the palace of Al-Zahra in Qortuba, to be exact. The play highlights the most important political and dramatic events that occurred during and after the reign of the Umayyad Caliph Al-Mustansir Billah, the ninth in the Ummaya line in Andalusia. Under his rule, the sciences were said to have flourished and the largest library in the world at the time was built in Cordoba.
The play tells the story of Soboh Al-Bashkinsiya, the chambermaid of Caliph Al-Mustansir, who also became his lover, companion and advisor, as well as the mother of his son, Prince Hisham. A brilliant and ambitious tutor and guardian named Mohammed Ben Abi Al-Amer is appointed for the prince and here is where our tale begins.

DIWANIYA: THE USE OF NATURAL DYES IN TRADITIONAL SADU WEAVING
Dr Ali Alnajadah, Asst. Professor and Head of the Department of Interior Design for the Public Authority of Applied Education and Training and as a Weaving Consultant for the Al Sadu Weaving Cooperative Society.
He has been studying natural dyes for some time now and in particular the ones favored and used by the Bedouin weavers in Kuwait in particular and has participated in International symposiums on natural dyes. The latest being the International Forum on Natural Dyes and Weft in Taiwan from 15th – 16th October 2014 in collaboration with Dr Keirene Canavan of Cardiff Metropolitan University and a Reaserch Fellow for the Al Sadu Weaving Cooperative Society.
This lecture will be followed by dinner.

The Sadu House is the place to discover the Bedouin art of weaving, its styles and history. Established in 1979 and now renovated it exhibits a wonderful collection of textiles.

You don't know Mr Ferrarii? Mr Ferrarii is a cab driver in NYC, who I found on Humans of New York Facebook page. HONY is one of the most fascinating pages you will find on FB.
Mr Ferrarii's story:
"So get this. I'm driving down Park Avenue one day and this guy waves for me, so I pull over and I ask him where he's going. He tells me 74th street, and I tell him that's too far for me, because my shift just ended, so he says 'thanks anyway' and walks away. But then I think about it, and I start feeling bad for the guy, cause hey-- I got a conscience. So I call him back to the cab and tell him to hop in. And he gets in the car all excited, all animated, and he's talking about all these things. But he's got his cap pulled down way over his eyes, so I can't see who it is. But pretty soon I start to recognize his voice. And when we get to a light, I turn to him, and I look him in the eye, and I scream: "WIIIIIIILLLSSSSSOOOOOOON!!!" And that really got him. He started laughing hard. He sees that I've got this Ferrari hat on, and a Ferrari shirt too, so he starts calling me 'Mr. Ferrari.' The whole ride, he keeps calling me 'Mr. Ferrari.' So after we get to his destination, we snap a quick photo, and he goes on his way. And I think that's it. But that's not it, cause get this. Over the next few weeks, I just happen to randomly pick up people that know him. People who have acted with him before, people who work with him. And every time, I tell them: 'Tell Mr. Hanks that Mr. Ferrari says 'hello.'" Every time I say that. Then one day I'm driving, and I get a text from one of the people that I'd driven, and it says: 'Mr. Hanks wants to invite you to see his Broadway show.' So I bring my lady to the show, and we get to go backstage and everything, and after the show, we're waiting for him in his dressing room, and he walks in and screams: 'Mr. Ferrari!' Can you believe that story? And you wanna know the craziest thing? The name of his show was 'Lucky Guy.' How crazy is that? Cause that was me. A lucky guy!"
LWDLIK - Ya gotta love New York, Tom Hanks and all the incredible people of NYC. They are what makes NYC a great city.
Kuwait has something kinda cute going on with a similar Facebook page Kuwait in a 1000 words hope it gains momentum as it really opens your eyes up to what other people are coping with. Seems to make us more.....human.

How Very Cool! Who'd Believe This is Kuwait?
The best dancers in Kuwait gathered at Cozmo Spraybox for the first of many all styles dance battle. All dancers were given a random song and limited time to show what they can do in a solo performance. The final 16 chosen will compete in the finals tonight at Spray Box in Shaab Park at Cozmo Spraybox in the Cozmo Football Fields. Come check out the top 16 dancers battling one another in Kuwait's first ever graffiti park!

Join Newsha Tavakolian for her artist talk at CAP on October 27, 2014 at 7:00 pm, in tandem with the Sacred Paths exhibition, where her work is exhibited alongside that of twelve other artists. She will share how she was forced to transform her work from traditional photojournalism to conceptual photography in order to be able to continue working. Her discussion will also explore photography’s place within the family, personal history and memory. She will impart the relationship her family has with the powerful artistic and historical medium, beginning with how it enchanted her grandfather as a young man, but was promptly rejected by his family members as an unacceptable hobby, and more recently, how she saw rare, resurfaced photographs taken by her great uncle, and the impact that experience had on Tavakolian and her understanding of him.

Contemporary Art Platform / Studio Space
In photojournalism, the story is everything. In this one-week intensive workshop you will become a visual storyteller and collaborate with photographer Tamara Abdulhadi to utilize documentary photography as a powerful means of communication and representation of social issues. The participants will choose their own subject / story, then in the four class sessions they will be able to make their stories come to life in the editing room. Please bring any photos and photo stories you have made in the past to share during the first class!
Tamara Abdulhadi is an internationally exhibited artist and photojournalist who is interested in social justice and deconstructing stereotypes. She has worked as a photojournalist and photo editor at Reuters and the New York Times and her work has been published in The Guardian and The Wall Street Journal. She co-founded Rawiya, a collective of photographers from the Middle East.
