Sport Relief was launched in 2002 by
Comic Relief UK, a charity which supports poor and disadvantaged people in the
UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
Sport Relief harnesses the power and
passion of sport to change lives for the better. By doing sport, having fun and
raising money, everyone can do good, and feel good.
At the heart of the campaign is the
Sport Relief Mile – a mass participation event open to everyone, regardless of
their athletic prowess or mobility. Members of the public are encouraged to
cover a distance of approximately 1 mile by whatever means they are able.
Participants usually ask friends, family and colleagues to sponsor them to take
part, in order to raise money for poor and disadvantaged people around the
world.
Over the past decade, a staggering £195m
has been raised in the UK through Sport Relief and a lot of lives have been
transformed as a result. We’re planning to make Sport Relief 2014 more
successful than ever, and as part of this, the Foreign & Commonwealth
Office are once again teaming up with Comic Relief UK to organise Sport Relief
Miles all around the world, to raise money for local charities which help
vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives.
This year the British Embassy in Kuwait
is inviting you to be a part of this global event!
There will be a sponsored Sport Relief Mile
taking place on the Gulf Road on Saturday 8th March 2014. You may
even appear on the BBC live show! It is open to people of all ages and
abilities. You can walk, run,
rollerblade, wear fancy dress, do a three-legged walk or even do it
blind-folded! Innovative ways of
completing the mile are highly encouraged!
Most of all we want you to have fun and raise as much money as possible
to help make a difference in people’s lives.
There will be a small registration fee
which will go to Sport Relief. Any
sponsorship money raised by participants will go to our nominated local charity
this year, Kuwait Red Crescent Society.

can view some emotive video clips telling the stories of the people who have
been helped by the funds raised, and some very entertaining clips showing how
the fund raising has been done!
