Discussion: The Psychology of Calligraphy

Fareed Abdal invites all to discuss the different ways we meditate through art. His lifetime of reflection about this topic is augmented by research that combines linguistics, poetry and ecstatic Sufi traditions. An artist, architecture professor, jeweler, gardener and martial arts enthusiast himself, Abdal has explored the variety of ways in which creativity takes over the mind and inspires others to find their own path to artistic bliss.

Experimental Calligraphy with ink

Using inks and brushes, we take these traditional materials and find a way to express modern thought. Abdal will lead us through a number of exercises that are both thought-provoking and thought-annihilating, ultimately helping us to link the unconscious mind to the written word.
