A Day in the Desert at Mutlaa Ridge - Look Out For The Scorpions!

Yesterday my family and great friends headed to the desert for the day. Loaded with blankets, chairs, kites and BBQ. We found a lovely spot along the Mutlaa Ridge with a great view. Once unpacked the kids ran down the ridge to hire small dune buggies and happily played on them all day.

The fresh air, view, company and food was just lovely. There were lots of jerboa holes - we hope they were jerboa holes- and we told the smaller kids they were snake holes to keep them close to us ;O)

Never thought to tell them of the scorpions! Today I was reading the Arab Times and two kids were stung by scorpions whilst camping out in Kabd. Yikes, very happy we didn't bump into any of those.

To get to Mutlaa Ridge take the 80 towards Jahra, after Jahra you will see signs for Mutlaa Ridge. It's a huge area and large parts are inaccessble due to the military and new constructions going up. Keep going til you find small roads leading into the desert. Four-wheel drive is recommended but you can go in other cars if you go slowly.
