Thought it might be interesting to see just how people are thinking out there regarding the lawsuit against a blogger's personal opinion and his personal experience at a restaurant.
So the little poll's general consensus shows that people are able to make up their own mind, regardless of a bad review by one blogger. The restaurant's handling of 'essentially' just a customer complaint was way over the top and impacted the majority of people who took the poll negatively.

I, personally, am EXHAUSTED of hearing about that lawsuit! That's between the blogger & the restaurant. I tried Benihana a couple of weeks ago, and I had an excellent dining experience. I would actually go back again.
ReplyDeleteHi Roxanne, Thanks for the comment. I don't doubt that there are many good experiences I'm happy for you that it was a good one. My gripe is I'm a blogger who likes review restaurants and share my opinions of them I don't believe I should have that liberty taken away from me. I know from other blogs that even when they have written bad reviews the restaurant in question tries to apologize, rectify and make amends. But a law suit? No I don't think that's an appropriate way of dealing with it al all.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't at all, I agree. And trust me, I also agree you should have the right to freely express your opinions and thoughts -BUT- Benihana also has the right to attempt to sue (unfortunately, whether we like it or not). I guess we'll see what happens in the end.
ReplyDeleteBy now I think it's turned into more of a publicity stunt-- more for the blogger. Mostly everyone in Kuwait & in the US (and everywhere else there's a Benihana franchise) knows of the Benihana brand, while only the GCC/Lebanon probably knew of the 248am blog. And like they say, even bad publicity is considered a form of advertising. Anyhoo, the whole thing is just getting annoying!
Anyway, that's only my personal opinion :)
Hi Roxanne,
ReplyDeleteYou're entitled to your opinion of course.
Personally I'm fascinated by the subject. If you're into reading blogs most are buzzing with this topic because we need to know if we can go on blogging our thoughts and opinions without having to think about law suits.
I truly don't think Mark's intention was to have this headache to increase his publicity, as you seem to imply. But I do think he'll get it - much to the dismay, I'm sure, of Mr Servo and Benihana of Tokyo Inc.
I, for one, would like to know that someone cares enough to blog about eating dangerous, uncooked food or spending money on substandard food quality. Would that put me off eating at that establishment...maybe. Depends what else I read or heard. But at the end of the day people make their own mind up, or at least I like to think so.
For those who blog it's a labour of love we know the hours of frustration at the slow uploads, downloads, no signal, slow signal, etc. Very few bloggers make money out of their blogs. Part of the payback is to have people read it and enjoy it. Of course that's not always going to happen some (many) people will take exception to what is said in a blog. But to get sued must be very disheartening. I hope Mark carries on blogging regardless of the outcome. Kuwait needs him and so do his many loyal readers.
IMHO :OD
