Beware when visiting the beaches!
My dear friend was walking her dogs on the beach (off exit 209 Fe'heel expressway) two days ago when she trod on and was pricked in the foot by a used syringe that had been left on the beach. She took a tetanus shot, followed by blood tests and a visit to the Preventative Medicine Clinic. Please be careful and alert out there!

That's much worse than the used condom I almost stepped on when I first arrived here in 1993.
ReplyDeleteHeroin use is on the rise here.
I hope your friend is ok. She'll probably have to continue taking tests - and the worst will be fear of HIV.
Thanks DG. We're hoping she'll be fine. Can't imagine the worry though.
ReplyDeleteSeems HIV doesn't live very long out of it's host environment but hepatitis is a concern for sure. Of course this could happen anywhere. Drugs are an increasing problem here I see Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) is running an anti-drug campaign soon. Sadly their web-site is all in Arabic so will probably be aimed at Arabic speakers. Which, in my humble opinion, is like dealing with half the population.
