The Marine Jaber Reserve has attracted thousands of scuba divers since its establishment eight years ago.
Walid Al-Fadhel, the head of divers of the Kuwait Environment Protection Society, expressed, in a statement to KUNA, deep satisfaction at the high turn-up of visitors to the reserve, located in the resort of Ras Al-Zor.
It hosts a statute depicting the old Dasman Gate, also dubbed the "Gate of Goodness" in homage to the late Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, an iconic leader in the realm of encouraging youth to be engaged in environmental activities.
The project is in part designed to protect some of the depleting national reefs and creating marine spots lucrative for divers.
Teams had dumped cement blocs into the sea bed at the reserve, laying the foundations for re-growth of reefs and luring various species of sea living creatures.
Eight years after the creation of the artificial infrastructure, the location has become abundant with reefs, various speciess of plants and fish.
Al-Fadhel renewed the call upon sea-goers to refrain from random dumping of anchors at these sites, or using any other tool that may inflict harm in the area.
Kuwait Dive Team’s values are teamwork, organizational work, leadership, distinction, sacrifice, patriotism, dedicated environmental projects and voluntary work.
