KUWAIT, March 12 (KUNA) -- Upon directives from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the first preparatory meeting for Kuwait Youth Council convened at Sief Palace here on Monday to mull the implementation of HH Amir's proposed national project for empowering youth.
The meeting was attended by Amiri Diwan Advisor and Chairman of the Higher Committee for the National Youth Project Dr. Youssef Hamad Al-Ibrahim and Head of the Executive Office of National Youth Project Jassem Al-Rubaiaan.
A large number of Kuwaiti youth have also contributed to the gathering, which focused on setting priorities for the project.
In his opening speech, Dr. Al-Ibrahim conveyed HH the Amir's greetings to the participants and best wishes for their mission. "This initiative highlights HH the Amir's great attention and support to Kuwaiti youth," Al-Ibrahim said. He pointed out that a highly-qualified team has been embarking on the project over the last three months.
Al-Ibrahim also listed a number of the objectives of the strategic project, including the following:
1 - Developing new methods for youth contribution to the society's issues.
2 - Creating channels of communication between the political leadership and youth.
3 - Surveying youth about their ambitions and aspirations for Kuwait future.
4 - Identifying youth problems and concerns and studying appropriate solutions to remove them.
5 - Engaging youth and benefiting from their ideas in outlining government programs and development plans.
6 - Training and qualifying promising youth leaderships to complete the development process.
7 - Encouraging youth to take initiatives and join private sector as well as enhancing their talents and creativity.
8 - Bolstering the Kuwaiti identity, promoting values of citizenship and national unity and fighting extremism, intolerance, discrimination, tribalism and sectarianism among youth.
9 - Consolidating the culture of democracy and promoting tolerance and diversity of views among youth Al-Ibrahim also unveiled a number of main principles for the initiative.
For his part, Head of the Executive Office of National Youth Project Jassem Al-Rubaiaan revealed the Executive Office lineup and its main tasks.
