World Purple (Epilepsy) Day Tomorrow Marked With a Walkathon and a Lecture

KUNA -The Kuwaiti society for epilepsy is organizing a marathon March 24 to mark World Purple (Epilepsy) Day.
Chairman of the society and Amiri Hospital Neurology Consultant Dr. Abdulaziz Ashkenani told KUNA Purple Day activities would include a walking marathon starting at 9 a.m. from Salwa Sabah Al-Ahmad Hall all the way to the Scientific Center.
There is also a lecture on Epilepsy at the Scientific Center IMAX Theatre at 11 a.m., for both Arabic and English speakers. The audiences have an opportunity to direct questions to the specialists after their contributions, Ashkenani said.
The figure expressed pride that Kuwait is the first Arab country to mark the day and organize suitable activities, noting that the society's campaign to increase awareness on and support to epileptics is under the motto "Dispelling Embarrassment".
World Purple Day started with a young girl, Canadian Cassidy Megan, suffering from epilepsy who called on the world to recognize a day for spreading awareness and rallying support for those suffering from this disorder.
Kuwait society for epilepsy was founded last year grouping 15 doctors and specialists in neurological diseases and epilepsy, and is the main sponsor of the events. The society is member in the International League against Epilepsy, he added.
Ashkenani noted that the society organized its first Purple Day Marathon in 2011
