Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah - Be Part of Art; Be a Docent

A docent is a very special part of a cultural experience and an important part of the DAI team. “A docent is a volunteer who teaches visitors about art in the museum’s galleries. Docents create meaningful experiences with museum visitors as they explore the world through works of art. They inspire and nurture discovery by encouraging visitors to look more deeply into artworks, and they help to enrich the lives of others by connecting people to art and the museum.”

As a DAI docent, you will be so much more than just a tour guide. We aren’t going to give you a script to be memorised; there are mechanical systems that provide rote information along a designated route. That’s a 21st century “tour guide” and that’s not good enough for the DAI. Instead, you will lead and you will share and you will make a difference in the lives of all those you touch – even if it’s only for a few moments now and a few moments later, when they think back on their visit.

Prior to becoming an active docent, you will have 15 hours of training, which will include an introduction to The al-Sabah Collection and Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah by Sheikha Hussah, a complete history of Amricani – from hospital to cultural centre, an introduction to Islamic art, and more. In short, everything you’ll need to be successful.

So, if you are over 18 with a passion for art; a desire to share that passion with others; and a willingness to dedicate at least 3 hours per month to the Amricani Cultural Centre, be part of art; be a DAI docent.
